Recent Statements from Hezbollah Chief Sheikh Naim Qassem

Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem on Monday warned against what he called “surrendering” the country to Israel. In a televised speech marking the first anniversary of the assassination of Hezbollah spokesman and senior official Mohammad Afif, Qassem emphasized the importance of resistance against Israeli aggression.

Warning Against Surrender

Qassem stated, “Those saying the resistance is a problem because it’s not surrendering accept that the country be surrendered to Israel, whereas we do not accept that.” He further emphasized that the Lebanese must stand strong against pressures and not become slaves to anyone. Qassem expressed confidence in the strength of the Lebanese people and society, noting that this strength cannot be defeated.

Pressures and Resilience

Qassem acknowledged the current pressures but asserted that they will not succeed in the face of Lebanese resilience. He reiterated the desire for land, captives, stability, economy, politics, and rights, emphasizing that it is the right of the Lebanese people to achieve these goals. Qassem also warned of a dangerous aggression that has its extensions and called for confronting it with all diplomatic and political forms.

Aggression and Resistance

Qassem pointed out that what’s happening today is aimed at seizing control of Lebanon and stripping it of all forms of strength. He called on the Israelis to leave Lebanese land, stop aggression, and free captives, suggesting that this would allow for internal agreement among Lebanese. Qassem noted that the Lebanese government and state have a responsibility to devise a program for confrontation, emphasizing that the aggression is the problem, not the resistance.

International Involvement

Qassem criticized the role of the United States, stating, “If you want to know the biggest problem in Lebanon, search for America.” He mentioned that a delegation from the U.S. Treasury was sent to tighten financial pressure on Hezbollah and all Lebanese, and lamented that Israel has not implemented any step related to the ceasefire agreement, with no guarantees from the U.S. side.

Call to Action

Addressing the Lebanese government, Qassem advised saying ‘No’ based on Lebanon’s rights and called for unity to succeed and liberate the land. He also advised the central bank governor to halt financial measures that pressure Hezbollah and all Lebanese. Qassem condemned the paralysis of parliament, calling it unjustified, and criticized the attack on Speaker Nabih Berri as sinful.

Conclusion

Sheikh Naim Qassem’s statements reflect a strong stance against surrendering to Israeli aggression and a call for national unity and resistance. Emphasizing the strength and rights of the Lebanese people, Qassem outlined a path forward that involves standing against external pressures and working towards a sovereign and independent Lebanon. His words underscore the complex geopolitical situation in the region and the need for diplomatic and political solutions to ongoing conflicts.
