Upcoming Events on Nantucket
This weekend, Nantucket is hosting a variety of events that cater to different interests and age groups. From workshops and self-defense classes to community gatherings and sports, there’s something for everyone.
Friday, January 9th
On Friday, the MMA Learning Lab will kick off its series of 90-minute workshops with a Vision Mapping session facilitated by MMA Executive Director Joanna Roche. The workshop, which starts at 8:30 a.m., is designed to help participants create a roadmap for their year ahead. The event is free for MMA members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration is required, and supplies, coffee, and a light snack will be provided.
In the afternoon, a free self-defense class will be held from 4-4:45 p.m. for children aged 8-12. The class, taught by Jules Embry-Pelrine of Nantucket Martial Arts Alliance, aims to equip kids with essential self-defense skills. Registration is recommended, but walk-ins are welcome.
Later that evening, the Atheneum will host an LGBTQ+ group meeting from 7-9 p.m., providing a supportive environment for individuals to connect and build community.
Saturday, January 10th
On Saturday, the Nantucket Wellness Festival will host a Community Winter Wellness Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dreamland Theatre. The event is free and open to all members of the Nantucket community, offering a range of activities and workshops focused on wellness and self-care.
Also on Saturday, a Mindful History: Qi Gong workshop will take place from 8:30-9:45 a.m. at 8 Howard Street. The $20 event, led by Heidi Drew, will focus on rest and restoration through Qi Gong practices.
The Atheneum will offer a Grab & Go Bag activity, where participants can create a sparkly winter painting without using glitter. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The MoonCatcher Project will also host a community event, MoonBee, from 12-3 p.m. at the Atheneum. The event aims to create reusable menstrual kits for distribution globally, and no sewing experience is required.
A Candlelight Vigil will be held on Main Street at 4:30 p.m. in memory of Renee Nicole Good. Indivisible Nantucket will provide battery-operated candles to the first 200 attendees.
Sunday, January 11th
On Sunday, football fans can catch the New England Patriots’ playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers at 8 p.m. on NBC/Peacock.
